What's Happening? Ready to reconnect to your body's wisdom and pleasures? Dr. Rachel Allyn will guide an opening and closing moving meditation and will discuss America's history of repression and mind-body split and why that's left us "sick" on an individual and collective level.  She's then going to unpack how living body fully is a foundation for cultivating presence, self regulation, pleasure, joy and intimacy.

About Dr. Rachel Allyn: Dr. Rachel Allyn, is a licensed clinical psychologist, certified yoga instructor, and writer. For the past 15 years she's had a private practice for adults that blends Western medicine with Eastern philosophy, and connects the mind with the body. She has been in private practice for fifteen years specializing in relationships, intimacy and sexual health as well as trauma, depression, and anxiety.

As a child raised in Minnesota she was drawn to all kinds of outdoor activities, later realizing that movement was her medicine to keep her focused and resilient. She left to get her BA from Williams College in MA then she promptly did what any plucky graduate of a liberal arts school would do: parlayed her political science degree into work as a reporter for a San Francisco television station. Logic aside, this led her to graduate school in clinical psychology to satiate her curiosity about why humans do what they do, and how they can feel more connected & joyful. After getting a PhD from the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) in San Francisco she became certified as a yoga instructor at the 500-hour level and did additional training in trauma-sensitive yoga. 

She helps clients develop a bodyfulness practice, which is like mindfulness but more dynamically engages the body’s wisdom, based on research that the body stores emotions and other experiences, which can get stuck within us unless we have safe ways to discharge them.

Dr. Allyn has spoken nationally at conferences, led workshops and seminars in a multitude of settings, and delivered a TEDx talk in 2019 on reconnecting to the body to reclaim pleasure. She also facilitates weeklong wellness retreats internationally.

From 2016 to 2019, Dr. Allyn wrote a monthly relationship and wellness advice column called, “Ask Dr. Rachel.” She’s been quoted in books and magazines including Yoga Journal, Women’s Health, Outside, Good Housekeeping, and Cosmopolitan and featured on podcasts. 

Her ultimate message is that even in this often challenging world, connection to life’s pleasures and joy is right there inside of you. When not spreading this message, she divides her time between her travels, the trails, and anyplace she can dance or sing karaoke.
